1952 Teardrop Trailer
Found on craigslist in Silverlake, near Los Angeles... Besides a thick coat of dust, it wasn't in terrible condition. Period construction, the usual trim found on the big trailers. Taillights are Bargman #2, markers are PM co #11. Windows and doors are well done, good materials and workmanship. I'm a bit surprised that it wasn't sheathed in aluminum, but it is well done. Probably a kit, and done by a craftsman as all of the wood fits very well.

10-15-07 Curb side door missing hinge. Reattached with an aluminum piano hinge.

Right side looks OK. Not too sure about that stripe though.

Galley hinge was missing. Original stove in decent condition.

Axle is a front unit from a 1946-1948 deSoto with the tie rod ends welded in place to keep the wheels pointed straight. Tires are 6.00x16 tubed.

As found, with interior light.

The rear of the interior shows the multiple shelves (much more useful layout than my previous teardrop) and the 1951+ Hehr windows.

The interior light with period switch and wood lined interior. It works!

The rear galley hinge was missing and required replacement. I found one at teardropparts.net Very helpful gentleman there, and fast service. Secured with silicone caulk and stainless wood screws.

Lots of scraping and sanding of the exterior. Then a protective coat of paint to the top and the side.

Wanted to get the top painted to keep it from getting damaged since it's outside here. The front section of wood required replacement, it was completely dry rotted. No use in painting it...

10-28-07 So I took the bad wood off. Also decided to remove the 1 7/8" ball coupler and replace with a 2" unit. Unfortunately for me, they welded it in multiple locations!!! Lots of drilling and grinding.

You can see the false floor here, gives a ~2" air space under the mattress. Not sure why it was done, perhaps the mattress was too thin for the door sills? Or extra insulation from a cold floor?

New plywood in place, secured and sealed.

Painted the front, now it looks quite nice

Rewired the trailer to change from 4-round to 4-flat connector.

10-31-07 Single tank LP mount arrived and got welded on with extra bracing. I'll likely also put a strap around the tank and frame to make sure it doesnt' go anywhere. The 4-flat connector is visible here along with the new coupler and safety chains...

Mattress arrived, 4" foam from the foam factory. Their website is a bit difficult to navigate, but I got a 4" thick custom size (45"x74") foam mattress with custom fit cover for $140.

Here you can see the bumper I made to protect the glass Bargman #2 trail lights. Wouldn't want to smack them into anything!!! The 2" channel is also large enough to store the pro rods I made for the rear hatch.
