Personal Interests and Hobbies
Hobbies and activities: Light machine work, the home garage includes a MIG welder, 1952
Bridgeport M head mill, and 1943 South Bend 10L lathe. Recently turned a custom flywheel for a
friend's project car, a stretched/widened Triumph Spitfire with a Lexus V8.
Currently installing a turbo 4AG into a Triumph Spitfire and converting a
diesel Vanagon to run on vegetable oil.
Electric cars: Currently own and drive
daily a 1997 Chevy S10 electric. Designed
and built a set of clamper circuits to fit on each battery module of the
previous electric truck to hold the module voltages in the string relatively
constant through the final charge stage by shunting excess current around each
battery when it exceeded a particular limit.
Banger rallying- the art of taking an end
of life vehicle and driving across a continent, completing challenges along the
way. The last rally was from London,
England to Naples, Italy. Challenges
along the way included number of countries visited in one day, number of
mountain passes completed in one day (Switzerland) and a final task of finding
three locations in southern Italy by a picture and short description but
without location information. Winner of
the 2005 “Staples 2 Naples” challenge.
Current software proficiencies include:
Pro/E 2001, Wildfire
Pi Software and logging boxes
Matlab, Simulink
AutoCAD
Windows, UNIX
